Port Barton: slow life, cafes and disconnection

Port Barton was clearly not planned in our itinerary. But as is often the case when traveling, plans change. We finally ended up spending five days in this little corner between El Nido and Puerto Princesa, on the island of Palawan.

Without a specific program, we quickly adopted chill mode. The only “mission” we had when we arrived was to go and discover Coconut Beach, a beach known locally… especially for its pigs.

And indeed, we were not disappointed. Free-roaming pigs rummaging through bags looking for snacks really sets the mood. We laughed a lot, and apart from that, the beach is really beautiful: clear water, calm sand, and a very relaxed atmosphere.

For his part, Matthieu took the opportunity to do two days of diving to pass his Advanced Open Water. With just llOpen Water, we quickly realize that we are a little limited, so it was the right time to progress. Two busy days underwater, while Sébastien lived his own version of slow life: coffees, rest, reading and total disconnection.

We also had some nice encounters there over drinks at the end of the day, in this simple and friendly atmosphere which is the charm of Port Barton.

And then there was our little daily ritual: an absolutely incredible banana bread spot. We returned there every day without exception. Simple, but clearly one of the best pleasures of the stay.

In terms of accommodation, we had a small bungalow by the sea, perfect for this kind of place. Ocean view, sunsets from the terrace, and that feeling of being a little cut off from the world.

In the end, Port Barton turned out to be a very nice surprise. Less touristy and more relaxed than El Nido, but in the same continuity: calm, the sea, and a real timeless break.
